Lauren can help you create a roadmap through the Networks offering that best suits your leadership and research goals. She can connect you with further specialists and offer support navigating the programme and opportunities.

Sharon Morgan-Young, Innovation Manager 

Sharon has run her own consultancy for the past six years and is an experienced facilitator and mentor on several programmes including Queen’s University/Invest NI’s Multi-Disciplinary Design Programme and Innovate NI’s Techies in Residence. She also has 20 years of management and leadership experience across different sectors.

Sharon can co-ordinate opportunities and provide one-to-one advice on innovation and commercialisation.

Paul Grimshaw, Knowledge Transfer Consultant

Paul has a background in innovation research and management, with experience of working in and between industry, university and charity sectors.

Paul can help with building links, support and providing resources for those for Fellows who have an interest in exploring and developing Knowledge Exchange opportunities.

Charlotte Bonner-Evans, Mentoring Manager 

Charlotte is a qualified and practicing Mentor and Coach (ILM Practitioner), working at Cardiff University.

As the Partnership Manager for the Network’s award-winning multi-faceted mentoring scheme, Charlotte works with mentees and mentors daily. She is responsible for recruitment of the mentors and delivering the operational activity of the mentoring scheme, community one-to-one coaching, and sharing good practice with colleagues across the UK to support the development of their mentoring programmes.

Charlotte can discuss mentoring and support you in being matched with a mentor that meets your needs and matches your values.

Katie Nicoll Baines, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Manager 

Katie is an equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) specialist and experienced facilitator/trainer with expertise in researching barriers to career progression experienced by women and LGBT+ people related to grant funding.

Katie can support and share resources on to help you strengthen EDI within your teams and help with specific issues you may be facing.

Research Impact advice with Saskia Walcott

Saskia Walcott is one the UK’s most eminent research impact practitioners, having worked in this niche for 15 years.  She became an independent consultant in 2010 and has trained and mentored 100s of academics on how to embed impact in their work and worked with universities to develop their research impact strategies and plans.  She has assisted with the development of 100s of REF impact case studies during REF 2014 and REF 2021 across units of assessment spanning all 4 main panels. Clients include universities in England, Scotland and Wales from Russell Group to post-92s.  Saskia has also held interim and short-term posts within HE. She was interim Director of Strategic Engagement at UWE Bristol and was Research Impact Manager at the University of Bath between 2014 and 2015. Prior to 2010 Saskia was Head of Communications and Public Engagement for the Economic and Social Research Council (2003 to 2010). Her background prior to that was corporate public relations.

  • You can also bring members of your team to your call with Saskia, although you must also be present.
  • Saskia’s availability is limited so we restrict  the funding of calls with her to one session per Fellow.

Steve Joy, Specialist in Leadership Development and Coaching

Steve is the Head of the Postdoc Academy at the University of Cambridge. He has been working with research staff for over thirteen years, including five years as a Postdoc Careers Adviser and, latterly, four years as Head of Researcher Development.

Steve works closely with Dr Tracey Stead to plan and deliver the Network’s training and development programme, including leadership retreats, the bespoke 360 Feedback and Coaching Programme, and the wider coaching and psychometric assessment offer. He has led sessions on self-leadership, inclusive leadership, and career management.
