About the Event

This event is one of a series of Bridging Courses taking place until Spring 2021.  They are aimed at new FLFs who do not have access to leadership training in their host institution.  Whilst they do not replace a formal leadership programme, they provide an opportunity to engage in a variety of relevant topics and take time to reflect on your leadership of self and others.

Bridging Course #1 - Introduction to Leadership in Research:

As a new FLF you are navigating the transition from being managed and led by others to leadership and management of yourself and others.   You are already undertaking outstanding research, so how do you become an outstanding leader? This short workshop is designed to help you to think carefully about what it takes to be an effective leader in research.  Using our own experience of leadership, along with discussion and theories, we will look at a variety of aspects of successful leadership within the context of research and academia.

This workshop is an opportunity for you to:

  • think about what are you aiming for in terms of leadership - what does leadership really look like?
  • pause and take stock of your own leadership attributes and skills
  • think about what needs to happen for you to further develop your research leadership skills.

This workshop will be facilitated by Dr Tracey Stead
