BECOME A MENTOR FOR THE UK'S FUTURE LEADERS
Mentoring from a varied, stimulating and experienced cohort of mentors is key to supporting FLF+s to build the skills and confidence to take advantage of the career and life opportunities that come their way.
'Mentoring is Mentee-driven and matched to mentee goals, interests, values and aspirations.’
Professor Claire Gorrara
FLF Development Network, Mentor Scheme Lead,
With your support, our goal is to enable FLFs to extend their professional networks and meet people like you who, we believe, could have a significant impact on their thinking and development as research leaders of the 21st century. The FLFs are a varied community of researchers, working across academia and industry, and likely to develop unique career trajectories influenced by the people and communities they meet on the programme.
Our FLFs have told us that they are looking for mentors who will support and challenge them, and bring new and diverse perspectives on topics that could include:
Understanding others’ aims and values
International experiences and perspectives
Guidance on strategic and long-term goals
Insight into more senior careers
Confidence and assertiveness
Coaching on managing relationships and difficult conversations
Opportunities for professional development and career planning
Encouragement and provision of a safe place to articulate challenges and concerns
A Matching survey for completion by both mentors and mentees will be released in June 2021.
